14/4/2008Smile Please - New Dental Practise For Town

A £15 MILLION investment in Coatbridge town centre will turn an old landmark into a new Dental and Primary Care Centre.
Regeneration of the former baths site in Main Street has now been given planning permission.
Developed by North Lanarkshire Council, NHS Lanarkshire, Glasgow University, Edinburgh Dental Institute and Coatbridge College, the centre will provide state-of-the-art facilities for a range of public services under one roof.
It will accommodate a dental education outreach centre for dental students, nurses and therapists - it will be the first of its kind in the area to provide training in a community setting and as part of a working dental practice.
In addition, the centre will also offer facilities for postgraduate training for general dental practitioners, and a service for patients with specialist dental needs.
Community dental services and one GP practice will relocate from Coatbridge Health Centre to the new centre - a move that will increase the amount of space for the remaining GP surgeries.
Another GP practice would also move from Church Street to the new centre.
The centre will also house two GP practices and the community mental health team and will provide a number of health services including health screen and visiting consultants.
The new building will also house a library, registrar's office and One Stop Shop.
Director of North Lanarkshire Community Health Partnership Colin Sloey, of NHS Lanarkshire, said: "This joint development will bring real benefits for patients by taking an innovative approach to provide access a number of health and council services in one convenient location.
"It will also provide a unique opportunity for dental training in Lanarkshire."
